Every year we invite a renowned author to read the City Lecture at the end of City2Cities under the title ‘Reading the City’. This year the City Lecture will be read by one of the most renowned contemporary American authors: Paul Auster. In the Netherlands he received great acknowledgement for the New York Trilogy in which his fascination for the mystery novel blends beautifully with the love for his city. His novels are always about the different ways to ‘read’ the city and the different ways in which the urban surrounding can be put into words. The themes of the city and literature also have a central postion in his lecture ‘The City of Words’.

After the fourty minutes lecture the presentation of Austers new book Winter Journal takes place. In an interview with Hans Bouman Auster tells about this work in which he looks back on his life. Following the presentation the Dutch edition of Winter Journal is sold by book store Savannah Bay. Of course it is possible to get your own copy signed by the author.
